First Sentence:
It would have been so easy to snatch the key chain from Sari's neck, break the lock on the macaques' enclosure, and follow the monkeys as they run wild into the palmetto woods.
My Immediate Thoughts:
Who are these people? What is going on? Why are there monkeys in Florida? What's with the monkey jail break fantasy?
Not Ready for My Close Up:
The best photo, the one that had been my lodestar during the last anxious months of selling my furniture and truck, was a sweeping panorama that must have been caught by drone. Atlas looked like a pristine village nestled in a clearing near a diamond-shaped lake that was surrounded by virgin sand pine scruff. Maybe all environments are best when viewed from above.
Not At All Comforting:
It was not a house that could keep bugs out - or anything else, I feared. A wolf could blow a kiss and it would all tumble down.
A full moon had escorted me home, but otherwise, I could see no other lights. I wondered if any of the women would even hear me if I screamed.
I didn't fully understand what was happening for most of this story, because neither did the narrator. But it was intriguing and the ending was satisfying.
