I think I told you about the bassinet that my mom's friend from church was kind enough to give to Kevin and I, despite the fact that it was missing the two rods that actually hold the bassinet up on its frame.
Well, I called Kolcraft, and I ordered the two rods I needed. They were $5 each, and there was a $5 shipping fee, so my total order was $15. Not too bad, considering that we would then have a working bassinet. I decided it was worth it so that we could use the bassinet in our bedroom when we first brought the baby home from the hospital, if we wanted to.
The parts finally came in the mail. They were very poorly packaged, and when we opened the envelope (of course, wouldn't you ship metal rods in an unpadded paper envelope?), they were clearly used. In fact, they were more used than the used bassinet that we needed them for. Now, I don't mind used replacement parts, but I do think that the customer service rep should have warned me that I was buying used parts, and I don't think that they should have cost so much, being used.
In any event, they work just fine, and they are hidden by the bassinet skirting, so it's no big deal really, but Kevin and I won't be buying any Kolcraft products in the future...just because.
Then, yesterday, since I now have a working bassinet, I decided to buy some more sheets for it, since we only have one. We stopped at Once Upon a Child, and they seemed to have one that would work. It was labeled as a cradle sheet, but it looked to be about the right size, and it was actually the same printed pattern as the one that we already have. So, for $3, I thought I had just found the perfect fitted sheet for my bassinet. I was totally excited, until I got it home, and discovered that cradle sheets are about twice the size of bassinet sheets. Go figure. I had no idea. Then I took a closer look at my receipt, and found that bedding is not returnable - so I'll probably just sell the cradle sheet to the used kids store by my house, since the one we were at yesterday is further away, and we don't have any reason to be back over there for the next two weeks anyways.
