There are certain things that we do at the same time each year.
We buy a turkey in November and a Christmas tree in December.
In July we play cornhole at Aunt Kathy and Uncle Tom's fabulous party.
October is for pumpkins.
But April? April is for butterflies at Franklin Park Conservatory. And it's when we go see where the chocolate Easter bunnies are made.
This is our second year visiting the Anthony Thomas chocolate factory for Easter. (It's where the Easter bunny likes to shop for chocolate for our baskets, you know. Except when we are spending Easter in Cleveland, when we like to go to the Malley's chocolate factory...but that is another story.)
This year, during our tour, we got to watch them make one of the 35 pound solid chocolate Easter bunnies. 35 pounds! The bunny is both as big as and as heavy as Connor is now, at the ripe old age of three. Oh, and it retails for a cool $199. Each year, they make about 20 of the bunnies, and one goes on display at each of their 14 retail locations. This year, they have sold 4 of the bunnies, and they were making a replacement for one of their displays. Any of the bunnies that don't get sold are melted down after Easter and made into other chocolates.
I think that maybe next year we should all get together and have a big Easter dinner. I'll buy the giant bunny, and you all can bring the rest of the food. Although, with 35 pounds of chocolate, I don't know what else I would want to eat.
