The entryway is lined with broken pieces of pottery. It's actually really cool.
First we received a demonstration on how to throw pottery using a pottery wheel, which is something that I had never done before, and something which looks way easier than it really is. But, with some assistance from the instructor, I was actually able to make a few things. We won't talk about how many pieces of clay I smashed into oblivion and had to send back to be recycled.
After we were done making things at the pottery wheel, we moved over to the tables where we were able to paint our pieces. This was a ton of fun, and not so hard!
I made this one. It's a bowl.
And this one. It's about the size of a shot glass.
Kevin made this bowl.
Clayspace allows you to bring your own refreshments to enjoy during your pottery sessions, which is very nice.
My parents gave us this bottle of wine as a gift. They took a tour of the Jackson-Triggs winery at Niagara Falls, and they brought this home for us.
This is the *official* 8th anniversary vase (pronounce it va-a-a-z, please) that Kevin made for us.
I made this lovely bowl, but it had a hole in the bottom:
The instructor helped me patch it up, and here is what it looked like in the end:
We got pretty dirty while we were there, but it was a wonderful new thing for us to do together.
Oh, and after we were good and dirty, we went out for dinner at the Elevator Brewery. It was the nicest meal I have ever eaten while covered with clay.
We both ordered the Rock Filet, which is one of our favorite things to eat in Columbus. It's awesome because you cook your own meat on a tulikivi firestone at the table. If you click on the link above, it is pictured right on their homepage. You should try it out, if you can.
