in which we go to a wedding and I get to sleep in a tent

Kevin and Sean have been friends since 2nd grade.  Sean was a groomsmen when Kevin and I got married.

Sidebar:  He is the second of our groomsmen to get married this summer.

Sean's family goes camping every summer, and Kevin and I have actually joined his family on their big camping trips before.  When we found at that they were planning a camping wedding weekend at the same campground where they always camp, it seemed pretty perfect, and we were very happy to be able to join them.

The first day, we realized that it was going to be a very wet weekend.

This is what our campsite looked like at its driest point:

Campsite when it was dry

This photo was taken right after we had set up our camp.  We lit that fire to try to dry up some of the ground there.  It worked pretty well, until the next downpour.

On the first day of the camping wedding weekend, we went on a 5 mile canoe trip.  Kevin did all the rowing and steering, I won't try to take any of the credit.  (Thanks, honey!)

That night there was a clambake.  Like a real clambake when everything gets cooked together in huge pots and poured onto a huge long table covered in newspaper.  I didn't eat any of the seafood (I left that for Kevin) but I did have the corn, potatoes and sausages.  It was seriously delicious.

Here is a taste of the clambake for you:

The second day was the wedding ceremony, and the skies cooperated pretty well.  It stayed dry until we were all in the barn for the reception.

Everything at this wedding was very environmentally-friendly, from the chalkboard program to the disposable plates made from palm leaves to the 100% compost-able plastic silverware.

Kevin helped pass out the seeds to throw and bubbles to blow at the end of the ceremony.

The flower girls were dressed like angels, and they were seriously cute.

The wedding ceremony was beautiful and very laid back.  Very perfect for the atmosphere.

Grass Seed to throw at the bride and groom.  Couldn't be more environmentally friendly in a field of grass.

In lieu of a guest book, there was a swing hanging in the gazebo after the ceremony where everyone was to write a message on the chalkboard for the couple and then snap a photo.  Afterwards, we all signed the swing.  I love this idea!

The reception dinner was a hog roast, with side dishes catered by an Amish family.  They even took the compost for their farm after the reception was over.

P.S.  Amish mac-n-cheese.  Need I say more?

Congratulations Sean and Evelyn!
